NANAIMO, BC, Jan. 7 /CNW/ - Great Canadian Casino Nanaimo is proud to announce that it will donate $15,000 to the local World Parrot Refuge in Coombs, B.C. on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 1 p.m. After a financially difficult year, the World Parrot Refuge was severely struggling to remain open and provide a home to some 700 parrots.
To ensure that the World Parrot Refuge remains open, the team at the Casino Nanaimo decided to step up and make a donation. "In the last year, many charitable organizations have lost their funding and we wanted to see this great facility remain open as they provide a home for life to previously owned pet parrots," said Howard Blank, Vice President Communications, Entertainment and Responsible Gaming with the Great Canadian Gaming Corporation.
President and co-founder of the World Parrot Refuge, Wendy Huntbatch is thrilled to be receiving a donation as the organization has the space, knowledge and the ability to care for these birds, but funds are always minimal. "Great Canadian Casinos care and have always stepped up to the plate to make it possible for us to help those who can not help themselves," said Huntbatch.
In 2006, Casino Nanaimo donated $13,000 to the World Parrot Refuge.
