Media advisory - Grand Chief Dr. Matthew Coon Come and Premier Jean Charest to Sign Historic Agreement on Governance of the James Bay Territory Français
NEMASKA, QC, July 23, 2012 /CNW/ - A ceremony will be held in Quebec City on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 to sign a history-making new agreement which will put in place a new regime for the governance of the James Bay Territory.
This new agreement is a follow-up to the Framework Agreement which was signed by Dr. Coon Come and Premier Charest in May 2011. It provides for greater autonomy of the Cree Nation over its traditional lands and resources, and also, creates a new Regional Government involving both Crees and Jamesiens. The new Regional Government will replace the existing James Bay Municipality (MBJ).
The signing ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. in the Legislative Council Room of the National Assembly.
