Media Advisory - First REnEW program participants take centre stage, graduate
with honours

Exclusive interview opportunities available with representatives from Terasen Gas and the John Howard Society of the Central and South Okanagan

SURREY, BC, March 24 /CNW/ - Media are invited to join in the celebration as the inaugural class of Terasen Gas' Residential Energy and Efficiency Works (REnEW) program students are awarded their official completion certificates by Sharon Shepherd, Mayor of Kelowna and Shelley Cook, Executive Director of the John Howard Society of the Central and South Okanagan. After five weeks of intensive training, the 12 graduates have the REnEWed confidence and robust skills they need to compete for jobs in the exciting and emerging field of energy efficiency and conservation.

Media will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from Terasen Gas and the John Howard Society about how the REnEW program positively impacts the lives of individuals who would otherwise face extreme barriers to employment. Photo opportunities include graduates receiving their certificates, as well as the graduates with representatives from the partner organizations.

The REnEW program - funded by Terasen Gas, FortisBC, and BC Hydro, and developed with the John Howard Society in Kelowna and Vancouver ACCESS BladeRunners in the Lower Mainland - provides at-risk participants in British Columbia with training and teaches them essential trade skills in the growing area of energy efficiency retrofits. Terasen hopes to build on the success of this first session to recruit additional students and expand the REnEW program to communities across B.C.
