McKesson Canada honours Canadian Military Families with unique experience at TORONTO 2015 Pan Am / Parapan Am Games

TORONTO, June 26, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - In partnership with the Toronto Military Family Resource Centre (TMFRC), McKesson Canada has provided more than 150 military families from the 32 Canadian Brigade Group with tickets to the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games experience.

On June 18, 2015, reservists, service personnel, and family members were on hand at a special ceremony honouring the women and men of Canada's military. "We are so proud of our service personnel. Their continued sacrifice and commitment are a hallmark of Canadian values. While our effort is a small gesture, it represents a heartfelt thanks from all of us at McKesson Canada for the courage, sacrifice, and commitment shown by members of our military and their families," said Alain Champagne, President of McKesson Canada. 

In addition to offering tickets to the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games, McKesson Canada invited close to 250 personnel and their families to the Rogers Centre as the Toronto Blue Jays took on the New York Mets. Service personnel were recognized during the Blue Jays game and enjoyed pre-game festivities alongside Pachi, the official mascot of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am / Parapan Am Games. Canadian sprint canoeist, Pan Am Games medal contender, and McKesson Canada's Team atoma sponsored athlete Mark Oldershaw joined the group to share his story and recognize the contributions made by Canada's military.

"TMFRC is overwhelmed by McKesson Canada's generous effort to bring servicemen and women and their families, in particular those of our service people who experienced illness or injury while in uniform, to the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games this summer," said Lieutenant-Colonel Andrew Zalvin, ex-officio board member of the TMFRC. "We believe that military families are the strength behind the uniform and truly appreciate McKesson Canada sharing this opportunity with us."

"I applaud the generosity of McKesson Canada in making so many tickets to the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games available to my soldiers and their families, through the Toronto Military Family Resource Centre," said Colonel Dwayne Hobbs, commander of 32 Canadian Brigade Group, which commands 13 Canadian Army regiments in the greater Toronto area. "Canadian soldiers work hard in service of their country and their families often make as many sacrifices as they do in protecting Canada at home and abroad. The support of corporate partners like McKesson Canada is greatly appreciated."

About 32 Canadian Brigade Group
The 32 Canadian Brigade Group is an infantry-heavy brigade with more than 2,400 soldiers in 13 units based in Toronto, Aurora, Barrie, Brampton, Georgetown, Oakville, Mississauga, Owen Sound, Brantford, Simcoe, St Catharines and CFB Borden. Many soldiers of 32 Canadian Brigade Group have served on operations around the world. Since the late 1980s, nearly 1,000 individuals from the Brigade have deployed with NATO, the United Nations and various coalitions to operations ranging from Cyprus, Cambodia, the Sudan and Sierra Leone to the peace-support and combat operations of the Balkans and Afghanistan. More than 100 soldiers of the Brigade's units returned from Kandahar just before Christmas of 2010.
