NDP candidate Lori McDaniel for her contribution to the Fort
McMurray—Athabasca by-election. McDaniel campaigned for reforms to the
Temporary Foreign Worker program and challenged Stephen Harper's
reckless natural resource policies.
"I'm so proud of Lori's campaign. She is a very strong candidate who
raised issues that working people in Fort McMurray are concerned
about," said Jerry Dias, Unifor's National President. "Her experience
working in the Oilsands means that she understands the importance of
sustainable natural resource development in Alberta."
McDaniel works as a heavy equipment operator at Suncor and serves as an
elected health and safety representative for Unifor Local 707A. Like
many of Fort McMurray's residents, she moved from the East Coast in
search of employment.
Unifor has been a vocal opponent of the Harper Conservatives' attempts
to reduce Canadians' rights in the workplace, including legislation
making it harder to unionize and take democratic job action in
