Margaret Froh launches campaign for President of Métis Nation of Ontario

BARRIE, ON, March 21, 2016 /CNW/ - Today, Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) citizen, Margaret Froh officially launched her campaign to become MNO President with the slogan of "Rights. Respect. Results." and a Campaign Team that includes Métis Elders, youth, men and women from throughout Ontario.

Froh, who lives in the traditional territory of the Georgian Bay Métis community with her spouse, is a Métis lawyer, educator and is currently the MNO's Associate Chief Operating Officer.  She is the past President of the Indigenous Bar Association, has worked as in-house legal counsel for an Ontario First Nation and has taught on the subjects of Indigenous leadership and governance issues at the Banff Centre for almost a decade.  Additional information about Margaret is available at

In explaining her reason for running in this MNO election Froh said, "This is a pivotal election and a very exciting time for Ontario Métis.  We have several once-in-a-generation opportunities both provincially and federally in order to make progress on Métis rights, lands and self-government as well as improve the lives of Ontario Métis."

"I believe we can achieve the results we all want for Ontario Métis children, youth, families and communities if we continue to work together and build on the MNO's Statement of Prime Purpose.  I hope I can earn the trust and votes of MNO citizens in order to be a part of the team that can make these aspirations become realities," added Froh.

As a part of the launch, current MNO President Gary Lipinski (who is retiring from Métis politics) offered his full support to Froh's candidacy.  "Margaret has the temperament, leadership experience, extensive knowledge about all aspects of the MNO, and, most importantly, the integrity to keep the MNO's momentum going. With Margaret as President, we will be able to capitalize on the exciting opportunities before us.  She has my vote on May 2nd," said President Lipinski.

Froh's Campaign Co-Chairs include the following MNO citizens: Todd Ross, Senator Verna Porter-Brunelle, Pearl Gabona, and Mitch Case. For a full listing of the Campaign Team and additional information on how MNO citizens can get involved in the campaign visit
