MONTREAL, April 26 /CNW Telbec/ - This Thursday, April 29, 2010, Astral Media Inc. (TSX: ACM.A/ACM.B) will hold the second annual Astral Media National Day of Caring for Kids. The event will be broadcast live from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. (local time) on more than 50 English-language stations in 30 cities.
This national event is in support of about 20 major hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country. Last year, in twelve hours, the radiothon raised almost 7.1 million dollars.
This year, Astral has created an online community that was quickly embraced by radio stations, children's hospital foundations, parents, young patients and listeners alike. Many touching and hope-filled stories and passionate calls for listener generosity have been posted over the past few days by the 1200 members of the radiothon's Facebook group.
"My name is Sara and I am 12 years old. I was diagnosed with bone cancer last year. Just like Terry Fox, I took treatments at the IWK Health Centre Foundation all last year, from early March to late November. Now I am all clear from cancer but I still need to have tests to make sure it doesn't come back. I have been asked to participate in the New Brunswick radiothon to tell all about my time at the IWK. Please, please donate."
This year, there are new ways to give during the radiothon and even before it starts:
