LCBO raises funds for Parent Action on Drugs

TORONTO, April 20, 2016 /CNW/ - Starting April 24, the public can help support Parent Action on Drugs (PAD) by making a donation at any of the more than 650 LCBO stores throughout Ontario. Donation boxes for PAD will be displayed at LCBO checkout counters until May 21.

Parent Action on Drugs (PAD) has been a leader in providing Ontario teens and their families with factual, research-based information about alcohol and other drugs for more than 30 years.  Donations from LCBO customers and employees help PAD develop and deliver important resources that focus on the information that teens need to know to keep themselves – and their friends – safe, while giving parents the tools to have meaningful conversations with their teens about alcohol and other drugs. One of these resources is the Parent Action Pack, which offers reliable and current information about alcohol and other drugs to parents and those who work with youth. The Parent Action Pack is available as a brochure in English and French and online at

"With prom and graduation season coming up, we want to thank LCBO's generous customers and supportive staff who help us raise significant funds and increase public awareness of the work done by Parent Action on Drugs through their network of stores across the province to help youth navigate safely through their teenage years and important milestones," says Joanne Brown, PAD's Executive Director.

"As a socially responsible community-minded retailer, LCBO is pleased to partner with Parent Action on Drugs and support a variety of worthy causes through the Giving Back In Our Community fundraising program," says LCBO Acting President & CEO George Soleas. "Through the generosity of LCBO customers and the support of our staff, we help improve the lives of countless Ontarians and make a difference in communities across Ontario."

PAD is one of 28 provincial and numerous local charities that will benefit from LCBO's province-wide donation box program in 2016. In 2014, LCBO raised a total of more than $9.5 million for charities through special programs and initiatives, of which $8.8 million was raised through in-store fundraising. In addition, LCBO's annual dividend transfer to the Ontario government, which totaled $1.805 billion in fiscal year 2014-15 ending March 31, 2015, excluding taxes, supports a wide range of important government programs, services and priorities, including health care and education.

PAD thanks the public for its support when shopping at their local LCBO store from April 24May 21.
