TORONTO, Nov. 30, 2015 /CNW/ - The Ontario Public Service Employees Union begins a four-week ad campaign at Toronto's busiest intersection today to remind the Wynne government that it has no mandate to privatize public services or sell public assets.
"The way Kathleen Wynne has been acting she might as well be Stephen Harper," said OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas. "What Wynne and Harper have in common is their disregard for democracy, and that's what these billboards are all about."
"Over 80 per cent of Ontarians oppose the sale of Hydro One," Thomas said, "but Kathleen Wynne couldn't care less about what citizens think."
"Stephen Harper found out what happens to leaders when they lose touch with the values of voters. The same fate awaits Kathleen Wynne if she continues down this arrogant path. Our message to Kathleen Wynne is this: 'If you don't want to listen to the democratic will of the people, then pack your bags.'"
The ad campaign features indoor and outdoor billboards at the corner of Yonge St. and Eglinton Ave., an intersection that sees more pedestrian traffic than any other in Toronto.
Starting this morning, thousands of commuters won't be able to escape seeing OPSEU's comparison between Wynne and Harper, Thomas said. "We're going to keep campaigning against this anti-democratic government until Kathleen Wynne wakes up."
