Join GLAD® in Donating 4 Good

TORONTO, Aug. 10, 2015 /CNW/ - This summer, GLAD® is teaming up with Goodwill in Toronto and the G.T.A. to help drive donations for their Donate4Good program.

To help encourage our communities to donate their used goods to those in need through Goodwill, GLAD® will be donating $10,000 + 10,000 black plastic bags to help corral your donatable items (and help you kickstart with your fall cleaning).

How can I receive the GLAD® bags and donate?
GLAD will be stationed at 5 select Loblaws locations across Toronto on weekends from August through to October to pick up your donations. Select neighbourhoods will also have door-to-door bag deliveries to help you prepare before your local Loblaws drop-off date.

For every Glad® bag returned with clothing and other gently used items, Glad will donate $1.50 to Goodwill*. *Up to a maximum of $8,000

"The GLAD® bags will greatly benefit our Donate4Good program, as they will provide an avenue for people in the local community to easily clean out their closets and bring their donations to Goodwill, as well as act as a reminder for people to support a local charity. The Donate4Good program allows people to keep items out of the landfill, while helping Goodwill fulfill its mission of enabling work opportunities and providing skills development for people facing barriers to employment."

MORE ABOUT… GOODWILL
Your used goods donations support Goodwill's ability to enable work opportunities and provide skills development for people facing barriers to employment.  Operating as a social enterprise, Goodwill generates funds through retail operations and other lines of business, which allows them the autonomy to be innovative and adapt their business lines and mission to fit the changing needs in the community.

Other ways your donations help your community:

  • Goodwill employs over 600 people in 15 Community Stores and 11 Attended Donation Centres across Toronto, Eastern, Central and Northern Ontario.
  • Over 1.4 million people shopped at Goodwill last year.
  • Over 12,000 people used Goodwill's Employment Services last year.
  • 73% of individuals who used Goodwill's employment services last year successfully obtained employment.
  • Thanks to your donations, millions of pounds of used goods are kept out of landfills each year. Last year, Goodwill diverted over 38 million pounds from landfills.

MORE ABOUT… GLAD
As the lead sponsor in Goodwill's Donate4Good program, GLAD will donate 10,000 bags, as well as a $10,000 in kind cash donation, to help encourage community support and participation across Toronto and the G.T.A.

GLAD is committed to sustainability and strongly believes in the importance of waste diversion, which is why we're so excited to partner up with Goodwill to encourage Canadians to reduce some of their household clutter and contribute to those in need while also diverting waste to landfills.

More ways to manage waste with GLAD:

  • GLAD's collection of bags with Odourguard® technology works to neutralize odours with febreze™ freshness. Available in indoor and outdoor trash bags, as well as compostable bags.
  • Compostable bags with febreze™ freshness are fully biodegradable in municipal facilities and perfect for food waste. They contain odours with the help of febreze™ freshness and are tough enough to handle messy food scraps.
  • Aim to produce less waste by diverting your trash into recyclable and organic food waste, where possible. Depending on your municipality, you can use Clear and Blue Bags to contain your recyclable items.
