Jack Webster Foundation - Journalism Fellowships Announced

VANCOUVER, March 28, 2014 /CNW/ - Jack Webster Foundation Co-Chairs Don Babick and Scott Macrae today announced $12,500 in funding for 2014 recipients of the JWF Professional Development Fellowships.

Three recipients will attend the Poynter Institute in Florida in the following courses: Backpack and Mobile Video reporting, Secrets of Great Enterprise Reporting and Essential Skills for New Managers. One recipient will attend the National Press Photographers Association's Advanced Story Telling Workshop and one is taking an online Poynter Institute course Becoming a More Effective Writer.

"We're very proud that the Jack Webster Foundation is able to provide professional development opportunities for BC journalists," Macrae said.  "To date, more than $200,000 has been distributed."

The 2014 Jack Webster Foundation Fellows are:

- Chris Corday, producer, CBC Vancouver

- Jackie Lieuwen, reporter, Houston Today

- Monica Martinez, video journalist, CHEK News

- Tracy Sherlock, reporter and editor, The Vancouver Sun

Darcy-Anne Wintonyk, website manager, CTV Vancouver

Corday receives the JWF Fellowship in the name of the late BC reporter Don Matheson, whose estate endowed an award for a BC-born journalist.

Deadline for entries to the 2015 fellowships is February 27, 2015.

The Jack Webster Foundation was established in 1986 to recognize and support excellence in BC-based journalism.
