Irving Oil Leads Convoy in Support of Special Olympics Nova Scotia

Hosting the World's Largest Convoy® with Canadian 'Ice Road Trucker' Alex Debogorski

HALIFAX, Sept. 19, 2014 /CNW/ - Irving Oil and Special Olympics Nova Scotia will host the third annual World's Largest Truck Convoy® in Halifax to support Special Olympics athletes in the province. Grand Marshall Alex Debogorski, of Ice Road Truckers fame, will lead the 150 rig convoy from CFB Shearwater through many popular streets in Dartmouth, Cole Harbour and Eastern Passage beginning at 10:15 AM Saturday, September 20.

"We're proud to support Nova Scotia's 1700 Special Olympics athletes," says Darren Gillis, Chief Marketing Officer of Irving Oil. "The convoy inspires support for the athletes and their families and we're excited to take part with other great community partners such as law enforcement officers and professional drivers".

"This is truly an exceptional event where the 'trucker buddy' spirit celebrates all that truckers are and all that athletes strive to be," says Debogorski, who is contributing his time in between filming episodes of the Emmy-nominated TV show Ice Road Truckers. "I encourage the public to come out and show support along the convoy route".

"With over 150 rigs registered, Irving Oil as our presenting sponsor, and a Canadian Ice Road Trucker as our Grand Marshall, this year will be – without a doubt – even bigger and better," says Mike Greek, CEO of Special Olympics Nova Scotia. "We certainly hope to reach our fundraising goal of $30,000 for our local athletes".
