Inquest into the death of Alwy Al-Nadhir postponed

TORONTO, Dec. 9 /CNW/ - Dr. James Edwards, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, today announced that the inquest into the death of Alwy Al-Nadhir has been postponed.

Mr. Al-Nadhir, 18, died on October 31, 2007, at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto after being shot by Toronto Police Service. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the events surrounding Mr. Al-Nadhir's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest was originally scheduled to begin on December 7, 2009. A new date has not yet been determined.

Dr. David Evans will preside as inquest coroner and Ms. Rebecca Edward will be counsel to the coroner.
