VANCOUVER, Oct. 8 /CNW/ - The International Association of Business Communicators Canada (IABC Canada) has announced the 2009 winners of its prestigious Master Communicator Award. They are Ivan Muzychka, Associate Director (Communications), at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Jennifer Wah, Principal Consultant with Forwords Communication Inc of Vancouver BC.
The commendation recognizes the excellence of communications work, outstanding service and leadership in IABC, and contribution to and thoughtful leadership in the communications profession.
The IABC Master Communicator designation is the association's highest honour in Canada and recognizes outstanding service and leadership in IABC, and thoughtful leadership in the communications profession.
IABC Canada has honoured only 38 individuals with this designation since it was established in 1980. Master Communicators are nominated and selected by their peers with a maximum of two members annually, one in each of the Eastern and Western Regions.
"Ivan guided the "digitization" of the university's news distribution system, taking the university from the days of the fax to its current web-based communications that includes podcasts, Twitter and Facebook." says this year's chair of the Master Communicator selection committee Tudor Williams, ABC, MC, IABC Fellow. "He also helped build the "Little Chapter that Could" as IABC Newfoundland-Labrador rose to be named International Chapter of the Year by IABC in 2008."
Describing Wah, Williams said, "Jennifer is a passionate communicator and business leader with a casual style and sharp business sense. She is known and recognized as a compelling writer and visual communicator. An avid advocate for the vision of IABC, Jennifer was instrumental in developing the Accreditation Completion Program, which became a model for similar programs around the world."
Ivan will receive his award in St John's at a special presentation on October 22, 2009. Jennifer will receive her award at the IABC Canada Conference in Banff November 8, 2009.
