Humane Society of Durham Region gets a helping paw from Pickering Town
Centre's Raise The Woof! campaign

TORONTO, March 11 /CNW/ - Touched by the Humane Society of Durham Region's tragic loss of over 100 animals and its facility, Pickering Town Centre is extending a helping paw with Raise The Woof! - a five-day fundraising and pet adoption campaign - created to raise community awareness and financial resources for the construction of a new animal shelter.

The campaign kicks off at Pickering Town Centre on Saturday, March 13, 2010 - 11:00 a.m. and continues throughout March Break (March 15-March 19). "We are very proud to partner with the Humane Society of Durham Region on this initiative," says Lorna Murphy, Marketing Director, Pickering Town Centre. "We are delighted to assist organizations who demonstrate such a strong commitment to the well-being of animals in our community," she adds. The public is welcome to support Raise The Woof! by purchasing cuddly, plush pets - $5 each. Two new pets will be released daily. Sales proceeds will be donated to the Humane Society of Durham Region.

Two limited edition plush pets (Colleen and Diamond) named after animals that perished in the fire, will also be available at a special pre-sale event during the March 13, 2010 launch. A portion of sales proceeds will be donated to the Humane Society of Durham Region. Photos of pets available for adoption, from the Humane Society of Durham Region, will be on exhibit in the Raise The Woof! Gallery. Kids can also get involved by entering a contest to create a new design for a reusable shopping bag. The bags will be sold at Pickering Town Centre. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Humane Society of Durham Region. For more details on Raise The Woof! and Pickering Town Centre's March Break line up, visit www.pickeringtowncentre.com.

"We suffered the worst tragedy that can happen to an animal shelter," said Ruby Richards, Public Relations Coordinator, Humane Society of Durham Region. "We are looking forward to rebuilding this year but we still need to raise additional funds to meet our goal." The Humane Society of Durham Region needs approximately $700,000 to rebuild its facility. Currently, it is operating out of a temporary location in Oshawa, ON. Construction on the new building is expected to begin in April 2010. To donate on-line: www.humanedurham.com or by phone: 905.433.2022 / 1.866.612.4144.
