Hostage Taking at WCB-Alberta Ends Without Incident

EDMONTON, Oct. 21 /CNW/ - A hostage-taking incident at WCB-Alberta's Central building has ended peacefully with all eight hostages being released without harm. Edmonton Police Services spent almost nine hours in negotiations with the gunman, believed to be a WCB claimant. The name of the gunman cannot be released pending further police investigation.

"A lot of people worked hard to achieve a peaceful resolution to the situation and we are very relieved to report that all of the hostages are safe and sound," said President and CEO Guy Kerr. "Our focus and priority at this time and in the days to come will be on WCB employees and helping them cope with today's traumatic experiences."

We thank the Edmonton Police Service for all their extraordinary work and are extremely grateful that our staff and clients were unharmed. The safety of our employees and clients was, and continues to be, our first priority.
