Holland America Line's Mariner Magazine Receives Prestigious Pearl Awards

<p><span class="xn-location">SEATTLE</span>, <span class="xn-chron">Dec. 20, 2010</span> /CNW/ -- Holland America Line's Mariner magazine for alumni guests recently won in several categories at the 2010 Pearl Awards in New York. The awards are sponsored by the Custom Content Council and recognize the best in custom publishing while celebrating excellence in journalism, graphic design and the development and execution of integrated marketing strategies built around custom publishing.</p>
<p/>
<p>Mariner magazine took top honors, winning gold awards in four categories for publications with a circulation over 250,000: best overall design, most improved publication, best use of photography and best overall editorial content.</p>
<p/>
<p>"We are honored that Holland America Line's Mariner magazine was again recognized for being an innovative, enriching and high-quality publication," said Richard D. Meadows, CTC, executive vice president, marketing, sales and guest programs. "Since the redesign last January we have worked diligently to provide entertaining, relevant content for our loyal Mariner Society members, and winning such notable categories from a celebrated publishing council validates our efforts."</p>

<p>Awards were presented in 54 categories ranging from best opening spread and best special issue to best cover lines and best distribution strategy. The 569 entries represented 71 companies, and the winning publications came from a wide range of industries.</p>

<p>In <span class="xn-chron">January 2010</span> Holland <span class="xn-person">America Line</span> revamped Mariner with a sleek contemporary design, sophisticated layout, glossy cover and editorial content by professional travel writers and celebrity guest authors.</p>

<p>Additionally, each four-color issue contains featured sections including "Onboard," which highlights what's new on Holland <span class="xn-person">America Line</span> ships; "Ports of Call," which profiles select destinations and shore excursions; "Mariner Values," detailing special cruise opportunities for past guests; and "Now Voyager," a short destination article written by a travel journalist.</p>

<p>Mariner magazine also won numerous 2010 Magnum Opus awards as well as Apex's 2010 Award for Publication Excellence in the "Custom-Published Magazines and Journals" category.</p>

<p>Holland America Line's Mariner magazine is just one of several benefits of the Mariner Society Rewards Program, which launched in fall 2009.
