High winds and heavy snow affecting 51,000 Hydro One customers

TORONTO, April 7, 2017 /CNW/ - High winds and heavy snow that started overnight in south and central Ontario continue to cause power outages on Hydro One's distribution system. It is expected that this weather will continue throughout the morning potentially causing further damage. There are currently 354 active outages affecting more than 51,000 customers. Where safe, Hydro One crews are out assessing damage and restoring power to customers.

"Our field offices are quickly mobilizing crews and are focused on restoring customers and responding to emergencies. Turning the lights back on for homes and businesses is our top priority," said Greg Kiraly, Chief Operating Officer. "Hydro One has the ability to quickly draw together line maintainers, arbourists, helicopters, damage assessors and support staff when a storm affects our service area and we won't stop working until every customer is restored."

If the power system in your area is affected by bad weather, be sure to stay clear of any fallen power lines. If you spot a fallen line, keep at least 10 metres back, even if it does not appear to be live. Report it to the police and call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.
