Hatch Honoured for Excellence at 2015 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards

OTTAWA, Oct. 27, 2015 /CNW/ - Hatch has won four national awards at the 2015 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards Gala held Friday night in Ottawa, Canada.

Hatch was honoured with the Tree of Life Award and an Award of Excellence for its innovative, high quality work, and environmental stewardship on the Forrest Kerr 195 MW Hydroelectric Power Project located northwest of Stewart, British Columbia, receiving the highest recognition in Natural Resources, Mining, Industry & Energy category. Hatch and Hatch Mott MacDonald were also honoured with the Outreach Award and an Award of Excellence in the Community Outreach and In-House Initiatives category for their contribution to Canada's economy, society, and environment.

Now in their 47th year, the Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards are considered the highest recognition for excellence in the consulting engineering industry, presented jointly by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies-Canada (ACEC) and Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine.

"We are so pleased to be recognized by the CCE," comments John Bianchini, Hatch CEO. "We have made a conscious effort to make corporate responsibility a core aspect when we design and build a project." He adds, "The Forrest Kerr project and our community outreach program reflect our company-wide commitment to supporting strong communities and engineering a better future both here in Canada and around the world."

Corinne Boone, Managing Director, Environmental Services at Hatch adds "We are honoured to receive these awards recognizing our commitment to corporate citizenship and to creating positive change in our communities. At Hatch, sustainability is central to how we conduct business and deliver successful projects. We wish to acknowledge our partners and stakeholders, who share our commitment to building strong communities and safeguarding the environment."

Award winners were selected by a panel of 12 independent jurors who have distinguished backgrounds in various sectors of the industry.

ACEC President and CEO John Gamble stated, "These awards highlight the outstanding talent and expertise of Canadian consulting engineering firms. By recognizing these projects with national awards, we are showcasing the important contributions of engineering firms to Canadians and the huge impact they have both here at home and around the world."

Forrest Kerr 195 MW Hydroelectric Power Project

The Forrest Kerr project had clear objectives which were to design and construct a 195 MW hydroelectric facility on time and on budget in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. AltaGas recognized Hatch as industry leaders and Hatch accepted the challenge. Through the application of innovative design concepts at both the headworks and underground powerhouse, the success of the Forrest Kerr project represents a triumph not only in multidisciplinary engineering coordination, but also in First Nations collaboration and sustainability.
