Harbour Link Container Services - Media Statement
DELTA, BC, Jan. 16, 2016 /CNW/ - Harbour Link Container Services Inc. (Harbour Link) is pleased to announce that it has concluded a settlement agreement with its unionized truck drivers represented by Unifor-VCTA and the Company is now fully open for business.
"It was imperative for us to negotiate a contract that would meet the needs of our customers and permit Harbour Link to remain competitive in the container trucking business," said David Payne, President of Harbour Link.
Harbour Link is committed to exerting every effort to restore the strong relationship it has built with customers over the 25 years that the Company has been in business, and to resume the seamless service that customers have come to expect.
"We would like to thank all our customers for standing by us over the past seven weeks as we have worked to resolve contract negotiations," said Payne. "Our customers are the backbone of our business and we look forward to working with each of them right away."
Harbour Link is absolutely committed to doing the right thing by its drivers. Payne emphasized that the Company has always been unconditionally committed and very clear – the Company will fulfill its retroactive pay obligations under the Container Trucking Act (CTA) as directed by the Office of the BC Container Trucking Commissioner (the 'Commissioner'). The requirement to settle retroactive pay flows from the higher minimum wage levels established by Government in the CTA (enacted in May 2015), compared to the wage levels already paid to Harbour Link truck drivers in accordance with the existing collective bargaining agreement negotiated between the union and the Company. Harbour Link reaffirms it will pay outstanding retroactive wages owed to drivers from April 3, 2014 to January 31, 2015, by no later than January 22, 2016.
