MISSISSAUGA, ON, Feb. 1 /CNW/ - Bereaved Families of Ontario - Halton/Peel now offers educational workshops on grief to the corporate sector. Since most work environments are not conducive to open conversations about grief, the BFO-HP Lunch & Learn program aims to open the dialogue and break down stereotypes, myths, and barriers facing bereaved workers.
The high cost of grief to a corporation is perhaps unknown to most businesses. The Grief Recovery Institute estimates workplace grief costs U.S. companies over $75 billion a year in reduced productivity, increased errors & accidents. Typical reactions to grief such as mental lapses, difficulty with decision-making, anxiety, withdrawal and more, can have unforeseen consequences for any organization in the form of absenteeism, reduced productivity, and increased health and insurance costs.
Addressing grief in the workplace, the BFO-HP Lunch & Learn program provides grieving employees with effective coping skills, and non-grieving employees effective ways to support their co-workers. BFO-HP can also provide specifically designed workshops or training sessions as well as facilitated debriefing following the death of a business colleague, if desired.
Lunch & Learn may help boost employee morale, provide much needed workplace support to personnel, help return staff to previous productivity levels, and provide businesses with a unique service that helps their image as an employer-of-choice. It is an inexpensive, effective method of educating worker and management teams while assisting companies with staff support and retention.
