Government of Canada Supports Policy and Leadership Development Program for Young Emerging Northern Leaders

OTTAWA, Dec. 20, 2016 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada is committed to supporting young northern leaders and providing them with the opportunity to take action on issues that matter the most to them and their communities.

Today, the Honourable Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs, announced support for the Jane Glassco Northern Fellowship Program. The Fellowship is an initiative of the Walter and Duncan Gordon Charitable Foundation. It provides young, emerging northern leaders with the tools and knowledge to research and develop policies that address important subjects like sustainable development, education, and criminal justice.

In 2016-17, INAC will contribute $250,000 toward the Fellowship program. This funding will support the Fellows as they gather together, learn from field experts, and conduct their research. Today's investment will also contribute to the future development of the program.
