Government agencies gain access to high-quality, accredited immigration
training

TORONTO, May 25 /CNW/ - The Canadian Migration Institute (CMI) announced a new, rigorous accreditation program today for employees of Federal, Provincial and Municipal agencies working in the field of Immigration and Settlement.

"Provincial nominee programs in particular are playing an increasingly important role in Canadian immigration," said Imran Qayyum, Chair of CMI. "The provincial immigration agencies are processing thousands of applications from would-be Canadians, and providing their employees with a high-quality education which leads to a professional accreditation will make them more effective."

To obtain CMI's Certified Canadian Immigration Advocate (CCIA) designation, individuals must complete an immigration practitioner education program. These programs are offered online and at educational institutions in major cities throughout Canada. CCIA candidates must also pass a professional accreditation examination. Once they have obtained their CCIA designation, they must continue to bolster their knowledge through continuing professional education.

"To get the accreditation individuals must meet high educational and ethical standards, a CCIA has the expertise needed to provide their stakeholders with the best quality of service," said Qayyum. "The online education option is especially important as this virtual classroom allows individuals to complete their immigration education independently and learn at their own pace, while never having to leave their home or place of work."

The role of the Canadian Migration Institute (www.cmi-icm.ca) is to educate, accredit and advocate on immigration law and policy. CMI represents more than 1,700 authorized immigration representatives and is the largest organization of its kind in North America. CMI has several chapters throughout Canada that provide regional support through accredited educational programs, advocacy on provincial issues and a local network for interaction and connection amongst authorized representatives.
