HALIFAX, Sept. 25 /CNW/ - (EMA - TSX): George Caines, a partner in the Halifax office of Stewart McKelvey, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Emera Inc.
Mr. Caines is currently the Chair of the Board of Nova Scotia Power Inc., a subsidiary of Emera. He has been a Director since 1995 and is also the Chair of NSPI's Audit Committee. From 1998 to 2006, Mr. Caines was a member of the Emera Board of Directors and also served as Chair of Emera's Audit Committee.

Mr. Caines is also President of the Neptune Theatre Foundation, a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, Past Chairman of the Tax Subsection of the Canadian Bar Association Nova Scotia Branch, former member of the Joint Committee of the Canadian Bar Association and Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants on Taxation.
Mr. Caines' practice areas include corporate/commercial, owner-managed business, public-private partnerships and property leasing. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society. In 2007, 2008 and 2009 Mr. Caines was identified as one of the leading 500 lawyers in Canada by the Lexpert(R)/American Lawyer Guide.
Mr. Caines holds a BA from the University of King's College and an LL.B from Dalhousie University. He was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1961 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1976.
