PERTH, AUSTRALIA, Dec. 3, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Galaxy Resources Ltd (ASX: GXY) ("Galaxy" or "the Company") confirms that following an incident at its Jiangsu Lithium Carbonate
Plant ("Jiangsu" or "the Plant") in China on 22 November, the provincial safety bureau has released the
site to the Company for further safety inspections, and scheduled
shutdown and maintenance work.
The area of the plant (Area 60) where the incident took place, will
remain isolated to assist with the completion of the dual
investigations being conducted by the Company and regulatory
Following discussions with various government safety bureaus, the
Company believes that it will not be possible to resolve the
investigation, complete repairs and achieve final site clearance within
the stated three week shutdown period, as had previously been expected.
The Company is working closely with authorities to ensure complete and
ongoing safety of the Plant, and will update the market on the expected
timeframe around re-commencement of operations as soon as possible.
Galaxy employees and contractors injured in the incident remain in a
stable condition and are recovering in Suzhou and Shanghai hospitals.

(where Chile, Argentina and Bolivia meet) which is currently the source
of 60% of global lithium production. Sal de Vida has excellent promise
as a future low cost brine mine and lithium carbonate processing
facility. The Company also owns the James Bay (100%) Lithium Pegmatite
Project in Quebec, Canada.
Lithium compounds are used in the manufacture of ceramics, glass,
electronics and are an essential cathode material for long life
lithium-ion batteries used to power e-bikes and hybrid and electric
