Full Tilt Poker's Scott Montgomery Wins First WSOP* Bracelet

- Montgomery Banks Over US$480K for Winning WSOP Event No.36

DUBLIN, June 28 /CNW/ -Full Tilt Poker pro Scott Montgomery won Event No.36 at the 2010 World Series of Poker*, taking home his first WSOP* bracelet and more than US$480,000 in prize money.

The Canadian player first played poker in 2004 while working as an English teacher in Japan. By 2008 he had already made his mark on the international tournament circuit, placing fifth in the World Poker Tour US$9,900 LA Poker Classic for over US$290K. His amazing run continued and that same year, Montgomery made it to the final table of the WSOP Main Event as a part of the inaugural November Nine. He eventually finished in fifth place, adding a massive US$3 million to his tournament earnings.

Now, Montgomery has achieved every poker player's dream and won a coveted WSOP bracelet. He bested a field of 3102 players to win Event No.36, a US$1,000 No-Limit Hold 'em tournament, which attracted many of the biggest names in poker.

Despite entering the final day with the second-shortest stack, Montgomery's aggressive playing style soon saw him battle his way to the top. The field eventually played down to Montgomery and Mick Carlson. Montgomery dominated the heads-up play and gained an incredible chip lead. In the final hand, Carlson pushed all in with K-2 from the small blind for 825,000 chips, and Scott Montgomery called with A-7. Carlson's hand failed to improve and Montgomery emerged victorious.

Montgomery's win earned him his first bracelet and a first prize of US$481, 760, bringing his total career tournament earnings to over US$4 million.
