Full Tilt Poker Pro Jose Luis Velador Wins Second WSOP* Bracelet

- Velador wins WSOP Event No. 33 for over $260K

DUBLIN, June 24 /CNW/ - Full Tilt Poker pro Jose Luis Velador won Event No.33 at the 2010 World Series of Poker*, taking home his second WSOP* bracelet and a payday of more than US$260,000 in prize money.

The Mexico-born player turned pro in 1997, steadily improving his game and reputation as a worthy tournament player. He earned his first big tournament score at the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event, where he cashed for over US$30k in prize money. Just two years later, he beat a field of over 2,300 players at the 2008 WSOP to win the US$1.5K No-Limit Hold 'em event, claiming $574,734 and his first bracelet.

Now, Velador has a second bracelet under his belt after besting a field of 482 players to win Event No.33. The US$2,500 Pot-Limit Hold 'em/Omaha tournament attracted some of the biggest names in poker. As the event played out, Full Tilt Poker pros dominated the action, including Team Full Tilt's Phil Ivey who finished the tournament in 12th place.

Velador's remarkable run started on Day Two of the tournament as he eliminated player after player before entering the final day as chip leader. He continued to dominate the tournament and increase his stack. The field eventually played down to a final three made up of Velador and fellow Full Tilt Poker pros Rob Hollink and David Chiu. Velador eliminated Hollink in third place, gaining a large chip lead against Chiu as they entered heads-up play.

In the final hand, the flop came down 6-3-2 and Chiu invested more than half of his stack in the pot with A-10. Velador reraised with a pair of sixes to put Chiu all in, and Chiu called. Chiu's hand failed to improve and he walked away in second place with over $160,000 after placing the bracelet on the Velador's wrist.

Velador's victory earned him a second bracelet and a first prize of $260,552, bringing his total career tournament earnings to over US$1.3 million.
