Former Yahoo! guru Tim Sanders to speak about implications of scarcity
thinking at the 12th annual CMA Alberta Accountability Summit
EDMONTON, May 28 /CNW/ - Scarcity thinking is one of the biggest factors impacting organizational success today, according to Tim Sanders, former Yahoo! Chief Solutions Officer and leadership coach. Sanders will be speaking on the topic at the 12th annual CMA Alberta Accountability Summit in Edmonton on May 28, 2010 at The Westin Hotel.
More than 550 management accounting professionals and business leaders from around the province will hear Sanders speak about the importance of helping employees move away from a scarcity mindset, where they fear there's not enough work to go around, towards abundance thinking that fosters a culture of creativity, innovation and superior customer service.
"Organizations that manage to stamp out scarcity thinking will have more success in every area: retention of talent, innovation, collaboration, and most importantly, delivering customer value," says Sanders.
The annual conference, hosted by Certified Management Accountants (CMA) of Alberta, helps Alberta's strategic management accounting professionals hone their skills, network and learn business-changing concepts and ideas to help their organizations thrive in the new economy.
"CMAs are challenging the new economy and driving industry by using dynamic leadership to grow business and increase productivity," says Kara Mitchelmore, Vice-President, Program Development for CMA Alberta. "CMAs are known for their superior management accounting skills, strategic thinking and leadership capabilities. The CMA Accountability Summit helps enhance these skills, making CMAs a vital ingredient for organizational success in the new economic era."
In addition, two other keynote speakers will be presenting at the conference.
Craig Kielburger, children's rights activist, award-winning author, three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee and founder of Free The Children, will use his international experiences, share case studies and provide audience members with specific recommendations that will allow attendees to help make their company a global leader in corporate social responsibility.
David Chilton, author of Canada's all-time best-selling book, The Wealthy Barber, will conclude the conference with a presentation that humorously illustrates how a healthy perspective can lead to positive results, despite what life throws at you.
Throughout the morning and afternoon, attendees will sit in on two of the following concurrent sessions of their choice: - The Moolala Method: Why smart people do dumb things with their money (and what you can do about it) Speaker: Bruce Sellery - Accountants and other daredevils: Inspiring stories of people who have overcome "you-can't-do-that" thinking Speaker: Carol Patterson, CMA - Introduction to social media Speaker: Doug Lacombe, MBA - A new generation of GAAP - PE GAAP Speaker: Karine Benzacar, MBA, CMA, CPA (Del.) - Leadership Speaker: Jim Harris - Out with schmoozing: The "new" networking workshop Speaker: Rhonda Victoor - Environmental Sustainability Speaker: David Crawford, CMA, CCEP
