Don't Be Fooled! Fraud Prevention is a Year-round Affair - Canadians need to remain vigilant all year long in the fight against fraud

OTTAWA, April 1, 2016 /CNW/ - It may be April Fools' Day, but there's nothing funny about being scammed. With Fraud Prevention Month 2016 behind us, the Competition Bureau and its Fraud Prevention Forum partners would like to remind Canadians that it is always important to Recognize, Reject and Report fraud.

The Bureau and its partners work throughout the year to provide consumers and businesses with the tools and information they need to protect themselves from scammers. No matter your age, income, education level or gender, the Bureau's website has a wealth of information to help Canadians arm themselves in the fight against fraud and to recognize when something is too good to be true:

  • Visit the fraud prevention portal for tips on how to avoid fraud.
  • Consult the Little Black Book of Scams to learn how various kinds of scams work.
  • Watch and share our entertaining and informative anti-fraud videos on YouTube.
  • Learn more about how businesses can avoid being caught up in bid-rigging.
  • Follow the Bureau on Twitter to keep up-to-date on news for consumers and businesses.
  • Consult the Fraud Prevention Forum partner's websites for even more information on fraud prevention.
  • And always report instances of fraud to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre or the Competition Bureau.
