CALGARY, April 13 /CNW/ - This morning, Devon Canada Corporation was named No. 5 on the 2010 list of Best Workplaces in Canada. The company was also ranked No. 1 for companies with more than 1,000 employees and received special recognition for "Best Camaraderie." The list and related articles were published in a special national report in The Globe and Mail.
Devon is the highest ranking energy company on the list. Earlier this year, Devon also was recognized among outstanding U.S. employers. The company was included on the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For list at No. 20, making it the only energy company in North America to be recognized on both sides of the border.
"This is a really big honour," comments Chris Seasons, president of Devon Canada. "Last year, the first year that we were recognized, we ranked number 20 on the Best Workplaces in Canada list. To move up the list in what has proven to be a challenging time, reflects the commitment, energy and creativity that our employees bring to the workplace. This recognition is really theirs, as each employee contributes to our culture and lives our values on a daily basis."
This list of Best Workplaces in Canada is compiled by Great Place to Work(R) Institute Canada. The competition process is based on two criteria: two-thirds of the total score comes from a 57-statement survey completed by a random selection of employees, along with their open-ended comments about their organization; the remaining one-third of the score comes from an in-depth review of the organization's culture, including an evaluation of human resources policies and procedures.
The results of Devon's survey found that employees consider the company's management to be accessible, ethical and caring. Employees overwhelmingly endorsed Devon's corporate culture, its atmosphere of teamwork and camaraderie, its commitment to community service and its flexible approach to benefits.
This year's list received over 200 nominations and approximately 41,000 employees participated in the 2010 "Best Workplaces in Canada" survey.
