Death of Jean-Claude Cardinal Turcotte - The lying in state at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral

MONTREAL, April 16, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Most Reverend Christian Lépine, Archbishop of Montreal, would like to invite the general public to pay their last respects to Jean-Claude Cardinal Turcotte, whose body will lie in state at Mary Queen of the World Cathedral on Thursday, April 16 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

SCHEDULE FOR APRIL 16

7 a.m.

Cathedral doors open.



7:30 a.m.

Mass in the apse (behind the main altar) (30 minutes)
The faithful who wish to attend this Mass celebrated for the repose of the soul of the deceased are welcome.



9:30 a.m.

Official opening of the lying in state
The Archbishop of Montreal, Most Rev. Christian Lépine, will preside. (20 minutes).



12:10 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Mass in the apse (behind the main altar) (30 minutes)
The faithful who wish to attend this Mass celebrated for the repose of the soul of the deceased are welcome.



7:30 p.m.

Celebration of Vespers, Office of the Dead
The Archbishop of Montreal, Most Rev. Christian Lépine, will preside. (30 minutes).



10:00 p.m.

Preparation for the closing of the cathedral
(The cathedral will remain open until everyone has left.)

Information for the Media
Members of the press office of the Catholic Church of Montreal will be on hand all day to welcome and assist the media.

The Marriage Chapel will be reserved for the media to conduct interviews with the dignitaries who will be arriving throughout the day to pay their respects. Please note that live broadcasting will not be permitted at this location. You are welcome to broadcast live outside the cathedral.

Funeral Service
Media organizations that wish to set up in front of the cathedral (parvis) may do so as of Friday morning. If you set up a recording location that includes a small tent, please ensure that it does not carry any logo.

Concerning the funeral, which will take place on Friday at 2 p.m., a photo pool is being created in collaboration with the Canadian Press. Media organizations that are interested can contact Mr. Paul Chiassonpaul.chiasson@lapressecanadienne.com 

Thursday afternoon, we will make known the number of seats that will be available in the cathedral for the general public. We will also publish the list of dignitaries and special guests who have accepted the invitation extended by the Turcotte family and Archbishop Christian Lépine.
