QUÉBEC CITY, May 29, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - CTREQ has signed an agreement with Réunir Réussir, an organization that supports regional joint action groups that promote student retention and educational success. Under the agreement, CTREQ is mandated to manage the Aboriginal Student Retention Fund and oversee Fund activities until March 2014.
"CTREQ was given the mandate mainly because of its past collaborations with Aboriginal communities as part of projects aimed at academic success and student retention," explained Linda St-Pierre, CTREQ`s President and Chief Executive Officer, "but also because of our partnerships with regional joint action groups."
From now on, new applications for funding will be sent to CTREQ. As before, the regional joint action groups and Aboriginal communities are free to apply. "We will work with Réunir Réussir to build a project selection committee that acts with all due rigour and impartiality," added Bruno Thériault, the Student Retention Fund manager for CTREQ.
"CTREQ is the perfect choice for managing this Aboriginal Fund. This great alliance will strengthen and build on the actions undertaken," said Réunir Réussir' Executive Director Sophie Harnois.
Under the agreement, CTREQ is also entrusted with helping communities develop new projects and guiding and supervising the projects selected by the committee.
