Crime Stoppers of Halton receives $50,000 commitment from Economical Insurance

WATERLOO, ON, April 16, 2015 /CNW/ - It's no secret to the residents of Halton Region that they are living in one of the safest regional municipalities in Canada to raise a family and do business, according to Statistics Canada. To help maintain this reputation for community safety, Crime Stoppers of Halton provides a vital service that offers residents an avenue to report criminal activity with guaranteed anonymity. This not-for-profit also conducts visits to schools in the region to show youth how they can anonymously report criminal activities and help make their communities safer places to live and play and their schools safer places to learn. For tips that result in an arrest, Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,000 in cash rewards.

Economical Insurance, one of Canada's leading providers of home, automobile and business insurance, is committing $50,000 over three years to fund this youth education program and other activities to raise awareness about how residents can help keep Halton safe from crime.

"At Economical, we are proud of our association with Crime Stoppers of Halton," said Karen Gavan, Economical's president & CEO. "We believe that when you inform people about Crime Stoppers, you are providing them with a positive message that will last a lifetime. With the assistance of the community, stolen property is recovered, criminals are apprehended, drugs are seized and weapons are taken off the streets."

"We are so grateful to Economical because with their support we are able to build greater awareness and engage the community even more," said Jennifer Olchowy, board chair of Crime Stoppers of Halton. "We are excited about the enhancements we can make to our youth education program, and about the very impactful Crime Stoppers public service announcements that will play before this summer's blockbuster movies at Cineplex cinemas in Oakville, Burlington and Milton this summer."
