Convocation - Tara Hunt at 3e mardi / Third Tuesday Montréal: Yes, I DO mind
the gap
MONTREAL, Feb. 15 /CNW Telbec/ - 3e mardi / Third Tuesday Montréal will feature author, speaker and blogger Tara Hunt for a conference entitled 'Yes, I DO mind the gap' on Tuesday February 16 at 6 pm at Daylight Factory (1030 Saint.Alexandre Street, Montreal).
Michelle Sullivan, leader of 3e mardi / Third Tuesday Montréal and Director of Digital Communications at HKDP, presents the event in this video.
The internet has transformed our social lives. Geography is no longer an issue for making connections and finding people we have things in common with. While this positive change is taking place in our personal lives, companies that come lumbering into online communities trying to 'make friends' and grow an audience mostly end up being all kinds of annoying. Most people aren't joining Facebook or Twitter to get more ads, but 89% say they do want to be able to interact with brands.
So what is the issue? The big value gap between what the human beings interacting on social networks espouse and what businesses are approaching us with. This talk discusses those values and highlights the companies who don't need or care about the number of fans they are gathering on their Facebook pages because they do it right: they align with human values. The author of The Whuffie Factor doesn't believe in pushing messages or creating strong brands, only in the power of building relationships. The presentation will be in English but the discussion will also be in French.
Tara 'missrogue' Hunt, named as one of the most influential women in technology by Fast Company Magazine, has spent the past fifteen years living her life online. From the first wave of online marketing as it emerged in the late 90's while in Canada all the way to being a pioneer of new marketing in Silicon Valley in 2005, leading the wave into Web 2.0: the participatory web. After spending four years in San Francisco, she moved to Montreal to write her next book (working title 'Happiness as Your Business Model') in August 2009.
Tara blogs at HorsePigCow, is on Twitter under her superhero name MissRogue, posts a great deal of self-portraits on Flickr, can be located like Carmen Sandiego on Dopplr, is trying to shake her addiction to Facebook, publishes her resume with microformats and is pretty much as open as one can be anywhere online.
3e mardi / Third Tuesday is a movement of communications, marketing and new technology professionals who meet regularly to discuss new media and participatory web. 3e mardi / Third Tuesday is sponsored by Thornley Fallis, 76design and the IABC/Montréal. This month's webcast is presented by HKDP.
