Completion work on a condominium in Longueuil: two decisions rendered by the Disciplinary Council of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec

MONTREAL, Dec. 15, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The Disciplinary Council of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) recently rendered decisions on guilt and penalty in the cases of two engineers who violated several sections of the Code of Ethics of Engineers in connection with completion work on a three-story condominium located in the borough of Saint-Hubert in Longueuil. The offences occurred in 2010. They are related to work on the building's exterior structures (balconies, walkways and stairs).

Christian Faubert will be struck off the OIQ's roll for a period of three months. He was also ordered to pay $10,000, including two $1,000 fines plus $8,000 to cover part of the expert appraisal costs incurred by the Office of the Syndic in support of the complaint lodged with the Disciplinary Council. Alain Scuvée will be struck off the OIQ's roll for a period of two months. He was also ordered to pay $13,756.09, including three $1,000 fines plus $10,756.09 to cover part of the expert appraisal costs incurred by the Office of the Syndic in support of the complaint lodged with the Disciplinary Council. Read this decision.

In these decisions, the Disciplinary Council also ordered both respondents to pay the costs in connection with the proceedings, including publication costs.

Even though these violations of the Code of Ethics did not result in an incident, the Office of the Syndic felt it was necessary to file these two disciplinary complaints in order to dissuade the professionals concerned from repeating the offences and set an example for other members of the profession.
