CloudMask launches in the UK to protect data in the cloud following new reforms

Zero trust model relieves security concerns about cloud adoption, data residency and compliance; new partnerships formed with Salesforce, IBM, Amazon and Entrust

LONDON, UK, Sept. 9, 2014 /CNW/ - CloudMask, an innovator in data protection, today launched in the UK to protect sensitive information in the cloud, even in the case of a total breach. Following high-profile data leaks and new reforms affecting data from the UK, CloudMask offers a 'zero trust model', a paradigm shift in how businesses and individuals protect information. The new security technology works on the premise that no one can be trusted with data - including cloud administrators, governments, employees, and even company IT administrators.

"New legislation and a hike in data leaks needn't deter anyone from adopting cloud technologies. A switch to cloud computing marks a decrease in the emphasis on systems and an increase in the focus on data," said Wael Aggan, CEO, CloudMask. "By masking data from creation, in transit, storage and processing to the final point of consumption, businesses can easily address security concerns about data privacy including residency and compliance."

Gartner expects cloud-based security services to grow to $3.7 billion by 2016, with annual growth of 20 percent and the highest growth is expected in the cloud-based tokenisation and encryption segment. In the last eighteen months, CloudMask has already worked with many organisations in North America, focusing on the public, legal, financial and health care sectors. CloudMask has been evaluated and implemented by Shared Service Canada (SSC), a Canadian federal government department and is used across multiple Canadian Federal Government departments.

"Eliminating the need for special encryption gateways or VPNs, CloudMask simplifies the deployment process with minimal time for implementation," said Jirka Danek, the former Director General, Enterprise Architecture, IT Security Accreditation Authority for the Canadian Federal Government. "CloudMask easily integrated with our security infrastructure and ensures that existing applications continue to function normally and that data will never travel, process or be stored as meaningful data."

CloudMask solves the following key issues faced by businesses today:

  • Data protection: data is inspected at creation and the appropriate type of protection is applied based on enterprise policy. Using Selective Intelligent Masking (SIM)TM, CloudMask can track, protect and control access of the sensitive data throughout its lifecycle. Strong encryption, tokenisation and masking ensure data protection, even if a hacker has infiltrated the network. The owner of the data is the only one who maintains control of decryption keys and decides who should get access to data.
  • Compliance: the zero trust model allows businesses to easily achieve regulatory compliance including EU Data Protection Directives, UK DPA and other industry specific regulations.
  • Data residency: data is masked by the user at the point of creation and not accessible as meaningful data throughout its journey within the enterprise, in the cloud and across international boundaries. Only the user can allow access to the data.

CloudMask has partnered with Entrust, Salesforce, IBM and Amazon to deliver the best possible security solution without compromising application functionality in any way. The company is looking to further develop its strategic technology and channel reseller partnerships in the UK.

Aggan confirmed CloudMask's commitment to UK security and concluded: "We're increasingly seeing data privacy issues impacting UK businesses in the media from security leaks to new laws on data sharing. This is a real wake-up call to protect our assets, our intellectual property and our information in a world where our adversaries, in most cases, are stronger than us."

CloudMask is the winner of the Canadian Innovation Commercialisation Programme (CICP) and is currently accepted to the Common Criteria Certification to meet the security certification required to operate with governments in 26 countries.

About CloudMask

Winner of the Canadian Innovation Commercialisation Programme (CICP), CloudMask protects data in the cloud and on premise, even in the event of a total breach.
