Claigan Passes Conflict Minerals Audit - Claigan audited against Step 2 of OECD Guidance
OTTAWA, July 27, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - On 17 July 2015, Claigan Environmental Inc. (www.claigan.com) received an independent auditor's opinion that their RCOI and due diligence process design and measures performed are in compliance with Step 2 of the OECD Due Diligence Guidance. Claigan is the first conflict minerals service provider to undergo an audit against the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas. The scope of the auditor's opinion covered Step 2 of the OECD Guidance, which encompasses the Reasonable Country of Origin Inquiry (RCOI) and due diligence services that Claigan provides to their clients.
Section 1502 of Dodd-Frank concerns the reporting and declaration of "conflict minerals" sourced from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Section 1502 and the related SEC Final Rule require companies to undergo an Independent Private Sector Audit (IPSA) of their due diligence if any of their products are declared 'DRC Conflict Free' in their conflict minerals filing to the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC).
"By undergoing an audit of the design and performance of our RCOI and due diligence processes, we simplify the auditing requirements of our clients" says Bruce Calder, VP of Consulting Services at Claigan Environmental. "We perform similar RCOI and due diligence work for so many companies, it did not make sense for each of our clients to be audited individually against the same process over and over again. It made more sense to be audited ourselves and for our clients to leverage our audit report. Being audited against Step 2 of the OECD Guidance does not remove all audit obligations from our clients, but it should greatly reduce the scope of their audits and greatly increase their confidence in passing their own audits."
