MONTREAL, June 26 /CNW/ - The CAW has reached a new three year tentative agreement with VIA Rail, after a difficult and challenging round of negotiations.
The deal was reached one day before the strike deadline of Sunday at 11:59 p.m., averting a possible work stoppage.
The tentative agreement enjoys the full support of the master bargaining committee.
Details of the collective agreement will be released upon ratification. Ratification will take place over the next two weeks across the country.
VIA Rail CAW workplace leadership will be reviewing the contents of the new agreement at a leadership meeting scheduled for Monday, June 28 in Montreal.
The CAW is VIA Rail's largest union, representing 2,200 workers in customer service, on-board service and maintenance.
