Message to all the Members of the Media

The Public's Participation in the Funeral

In the near future, the archdiocese will publish the list of dignitaries who will be attending the funeral as well as the number of personal guests. Later this week (probably on Thursday), the archdiocese will indicate how many seats have been reserved for the public as well as the procedure for entering the cathedral to attend the funeral.

Television Pool

The Archbishop of Montreal has accepted the offer of CBC's news source for French Canada, RDI, to set up the equipment for televising:

  • The lying in state on Thursday, April 16 – The members of the media will have access to the cathedral from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. (RDI's cameras will be recording images throughout the day).
  • The funeral on Friday, April 17 (between 1:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m.)

CBC/RDI will set up its studio in the cathedral's basement and, for two days, will collect the news for a pool feed that will be accessible to all other networks that wish to broadcast the images during those two days. Richard Desjardins will be the director.

For arrangements concerning access to this pool and the video signal, please contact:
Anne Myre: 514-597-7719 or
Patrick Perrault: 514-597-3724

There will be no restrictions outside the cathedral or in the area reserved for interviews during the lying in state on Thursday, April 16.

Photographers

During the lying in state, respect for the faithful will be our greatest priority.

News photographers will be allowed inside the cathedral, but they will have to register first and follow all the instructions given to them.

Out of respect for the faithful, photographers will not be allowed to take pictures inside the cathedral during the funeral. The pictures taken by the archdiocese's photographer will be made available to the media. For information concerning the pictures of the funeral, please contact Richard Maltais at 514 925 4300, extension 285 – rmaltais@diocesemontreal.org.
