TORONTO, Feb. 4, 2015 /CNW/ - Shoppers want to save time and avoid checkout hassles as they shop online for everything from designer shoes to groceries to flights. Today MasterCard announced that several major merchants are now onboard and committed to having MasterPass provide a seamless, safe and secure online shopping experience for their customers.

Accepted in 16 countries, MasterPass is already live with new merchants like The Globe and Mail and Flight Network  and will be available on Lowes.ca, Sears.ca and Montreal Canadiens in the coming weeks.

"We are excited to offer our customers an easy and seamless way to pay online. MasterPass is a safe and secure way to check out, eliminating the pain points that our consumers tell us about," said Wendy Braithwaite, Group Head, Market Development, MasterCard. "Having strong Canadian retailers come on board expands the offerings to our customers. With a solid understanding of their shopping habits, we're working to expand our service offerings to best meet their needs and provide the ultimate shopping experience."

MasterPass enables consumers to pay with any enrolled payment card, anywhere online or in app, using any device and eliminates the time-consuming need to enter detailed payment and shipping information with every purchase.

With an expanded list of retailers, customers can continue to receive key benefits from their MasterPass, including:

  • Ability to securely store card information, address books and more in a secure cloud hosted by a trusted entity – all possible by the MasterPass connected wallet.
  • Value added services providing consumers with more information like account balances and real-time alerts, loyalty program, as well as Priceless offers and experiences.

"The Globe and Mail takes pride in being able to offer our subscribers access to our award-winning content in the format that suits them best," says Sean Humphrey, VP Marketing and Communications for The Globe and Mail. "Now they can enjoy the ease of MasterPass payment system for our digital products and soon for our print products as well."

"Consumers like shopping online but paying for things can be challenging. MasterPass helps turn every online payment experience into an express checkout lane and offers the consumer piece-on-mind that their information is secure," said Wendy Braithwaite.
