Carbon offset software platform surpasses 210,000 credits
CALGARY, May 26, 2016 /CNW/ - Cap-Op Energy quantified an additional 52,000 tCO2e of carbon credits through its award-winning software, the Distributed Energy Efficiency Project Platform (DEEPP). The DEEPP has surpassed 210,000 tCO2e since 2011. The credits, resulting from energy efficiency and methane abatement projects conducted by leaders in the oil and gas industry, are verified and serialized in the Alberta Offset System. The carbon price is currently $20/tCO2e in Alberta and will increase to $30/tCO2e in 2017, designed to drive additional investment in emission reduction projects.
With its clients, Cap-Op advances innovative technologies and preserves resources. "Cap-Op uses powerful software to automate processes that can be very challenging," says Technical Director Ian Kuwahara. "Verifiers appreciate the transparency, clients love the value, and our partners are inspired to see us make sustainability profitable."
The energy industry in Alberta has struggled to lower operating costs in recent years, while finding ways to mitigate exposure to risks posed by tightening climate policies. Cap-Op Energy is a technology company that delivers a solution to industry by developing emission reduction credits from a variety of project types. The DEEPP offers oil and gas producers the ability to automate and standardize the quantification of GHG reductions, yielding high-quality, low-cost carbon offsets.
