Canderel Chairman Issues Challenge to Montreal's Corporate Community
MONTREAL, April 6 /CNW Telbec/ - What's happening in your office on May 7? Jonathan Wener, Chairman and Founder of Canderel Management inc., is currently recruiting teams for the 21st annual Défi Canderel run and wants to see if, once again, the Montreal corporate community can exceed last year's fundraising total.
"I am issuing a challenge to all companies right here in Montreal" says Wener. "Cancer is a disease that touches us all. By working together and engaging the business community, we have the ability to make a difference in the lives of our friends, family, neighbors and co-workers."
After learning that his wife Susan had been diagnosed with cancer in 1989, Wener, began working on an idea to create a large-scale corporate fundraiser, benefiting cancer research. His goal was to see corporate Montreal come together and have a positive impact on the community, while improving the lives of those affected by this terrible disease through advances in cancer treatments.
In 1990, the Défi Canderel, an event where Montreal's top companies compete against one another to raise money to fund cancer research, was born. Over the years the Défi has grown in size and participation as Wener has used his growing influence in Montreal's business community to get buy-in from some of the city's largest and most recognized companies.
About Défi Canderel
Since 1989, Canderel has been organizing one of Montreal's biggest fund-raisers. In that time, close to 6 million dollars has been raised for cancer research at the Goodman Cancer Centre at McGill University and the Institut du cancer de Montréal at l'Université de Montréal. This money has yielded tangible, measurable results. Specialized equipment, research grants and much more has been made possible, and the universities involved take pride each year in revealing what the money raised was used for.
Note to Media:
