Canadian Paralympic Committee announces Team Canada for the 2015 Parapan American Games

TORONTO, July 31, 2015 /CNW/ - The Canadian Paralympic Committee is proud to announce the athletes, coaches and staff who will make up Team Canada at the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto August 7-15.

Canada will bring a total of 216 athletes including 11 guides to compete in 14 of the 15 sports contested at the Toronto Parapan Ams: boccia, goalball, judo, para-archery, para-athletics, para-cycling, para-swimming, powerlifting, seven-a-side football, sitting volleyball, table tennis, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair tennis.

The Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Team is led by Chef de Mission Elisabeth Walker-Young and assistant Chef de Mission Stephanie Dixon, both former national team para-swimmers. In all there are 123 mission staff members.

CBC/Radio-Canada is the official broadcaster of the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games in Canada and will provide Canadians with unprecedented coverage the Games - through an extensive multiplatform approach. CBC-TV will offer daily primetime and late night broadcasts during the Parapan Am Games.  Radio-Canada's coverage of the Parapan Am Games will include a nightly hour-long broadcast recapping the best from each day of competition.

From a digital perspective, CBC/Radio-Canada will again provide Canadians with live streaming of swimming, athletics, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair basketball competition through cbc.ca/panam in English and ici.radio-canada.ca/panam in French, and via an app presented by CIBC for iOS and Android mobile devices (available in English and French). Additional features of the website and app will include the latest live and on-demand video, instant results, medal standings and news from in and around the events.

PHOTOGRAPHY: Media are invited to visit photos.paralympic.ca and create an account to be able to download high-resolution photos of Canadian para-athletes at any time, at no cost. It is recommended to do this now, to ensure immediate delivery of photos during Games time.

This summer's Parapan Am Games will host more than 1,600 athletes who will compete in 15 sports at 11 different competition venues, which have been designed to operate and deliver accessible options for both athletes and spectators. The Parapan Am Games will officially open when the cauldron is lit at the new CIBC Pan Am/Parapan Am Athletics Stadium on August 7.
