WINNIPEG, April 21, 2014 /CNW/ - PCL Construction is pleased to announce
that the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) in Winnipeg has received a 2014 Global Best Project Award from Engineering-News Record (ENR).
"This new national museum is the kind of project that comes along once
in a generation," said CMHR president and CEO Stuart Murray. "We were
not merely constructing a building, but creating a work of
architectural art that stands as a showpiece and testament to human
"Its complex geometry is something that has rarely, if ever, been
attempted before on this scale in Canada. As our valued construction
partner, PCL could always be relied upon - through hard work and
collaboration - to find the solutions that will see this building open
its doors on September 20, 2014."
Winning in the Cultural category, the CMHR is the first large-scale
project in Canada to use 3-D modeling as part of a Virtual Design and
Construction (VDC) approach across all consultant and contractor
groups. As the construction manager, PCL used VDC to successfully
coordinate the project efforts of approximately 40 companies across
Canada, the United States, and Germany. Visit PCL.com to read more about the VDC approach in the CMHR feature story, with links to a fact sheet and illustrated case study.
ENR judged projects from all over the world in a variety of categories,
from education to bridges. Projects were evaluated on safety,
innovation, community contribution, design/construction excellence, and
collaborative problem solving. This year's 20 top projects from around
the world will be celebrated at the Global Best Projects Awards dinner
in New York on May 13. At that time ENR will also reveal the Global
Project of the Year from the submissions across all categories.
This is PCL's second Global Best Project recognition. In 2013, PCL
Westcoast Constructors Inc. in Vancouver took first place in the
Sports/Entertainment category for the BC Place Revitalization project
in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia.
