TORONTO, March 10 /CNW/ - The Canadian Migration Institute (CMI) is celebrating a landmark achievement for the immigration consulting profession as The Conference Board of Canada announced today that John Ryan, Chair and Acting CEO of the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants (CSIC), has won the highly prestigious Gilbert Bennett Gold Standard Award for his commitment to excellence in corporate governance.
"John has played a vital role in CSIC's many accomplishments in the pursuit of its consumer protection mandate," said Imran Qayyum, Chair of CMI. "Clearly The Conference Board of Canada has recognized that, as a result of John's work, CSIC has become a mature, successful regulator. That recognition reflects positively on all immigration consulting professionals."
The Directors College presented Ryan with the award. The Conference Board of Canada, the DeGroote School of Business and McMaster University founded The Directors College, which has become Canada's leading university-accredited director education program.
The Directors College introduced the Gold Standard Award in 2006 in honour of former Canadian Tire chairman Gil Bennett. Ryan joins the esteemed company of former winners such as Deposit Insurance Corporation of Ontario CEO Andy Poprawa and Don McCreesh, President of The Garnet Group.
"The former Gold Standard Award winners are all influential corporate leaders that have been tremendously successful in bringing positive change to their respective organizations," said Qayyum. "In John's case that organization is CSIC."
The role of the Canadian Migration Institute (www.cmi-icm.ca) is to educate, accredit and advocate on immigration law and policy. CMI represents more than 1,700 authorized immigration representatives and is the largest organization of its kind in North America. CMI has several chapters throughout Canada that provide regional support through accredited educational programs, advocacy on provincial issues and a local network for interaction and connection amongst authorized representatives.
