Canadian Cancer Society wins first prize in DoGooder Video Awards

Lighthearted Nutiquette video spreads awareness about testicular cancer

TORONTO, March 13, 2014 /CNW/ - The Canadian Cancer Society's Nutiquette video has won first prize in the Funny for Good category in the 8th annual DoGooder Nonprofit Video Awards. Winners were announced on Thursday, March 13, at the the Nonprofit Technology Conference in Washington, DC.

To celebrate 2013 Men's Cancer Health Awareness Month in September, the Society launched a successful nationwide campaign to teach men how to spot testicular cancer early. The Nutiquette video was at the centre of the campaign to target young men. In the video, a surprised young man finds a quartet in his shower serenading him with a humorous jingle about the 3 steps to finding testicular cancer early.

Testicular cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men aged 15-29, and if it's caught early, the chances of successful treatment are much better.

"We knew we had to think outside the box to reach our target audience," says Mathew Sepkowski, Director of Marketing, Canadian Cancer Society. "Our market research has shown that humour with an underlining serious message is the way to engage young men and encourage them to take charge of their testicular health. We hope this video encourages guys to practise proper Nutiquette."
