Calgary company in running to be E&Y 2010 World Entrepreneur of the Year
Packers Plus Energy Services Inc. up against 42 other country winners in competition
CALGARY, June 3 /CNW/ - Packers Plus, a Calgary-based company, represents Canada and faces the world in the International Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year competition being held in Monte Carlo, Monaco from June 3-6. The company is best known for pioneering methods to extract oil and gas from tight rock formations such as shale to unlock previously unrecoverable energy reserves.
"We were thrilled to win the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for all of Canada," said President Dan Themig. "And now we are excited to represent our country in a field of other amazing companies from all around the globe."
Packers Plus was first nominated for the prestigious award a year ago. The company won its category for Energy Technology at a ceremony in Calgary in October 2009. The company also won the E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year for the Prairies Region at the same ceremony.
One month later, Packers Plus was up against five regional winners in Vancouver. The Calgary-based energy company took home top honors and earned the right to be called E&Y Entrepreneur of the Year for Canada.
Now the competition has moved to the world stage. E&Y is hosting the International competition in Monaco and the competition is stiff. Other contentors include the U.S.-based language company Rosetta Stone and the France-based gaming company Ubisoft.
"This is such a privilege to be in the company of the world's best entrepreneurs," said Themig. "It is truly an honor to meet and talk with other companies who have excelled in their areas."
The E&Y competition started June 3 and includes two days of meetings and interviews with the judges. The winner is announced at a banquet on the evening of June 5.
