TALLAHASSEE, Fla., <chron>Oct. 7</chron> /CNW/ -- The Canadian Association of Chain Drug Stores (CACDS), the national voice of community pharmacy in <location>Canada</location>, has announced its partnership with LearnSomething, Inc. -- the leading provider of innovative digital solutions for pharmacy and health care industries -- to create and distribute content for the Canadian pharmacy marketplace.

Retail Members of CACDS, about 6,500 traditional chain drug stores, grocery chains and mass merchandisers with pharmacies, will soon be able to access convenient and affordable online courses and services through the CACDS member website.

"LearnSomething courses and services provide our members with cost-effective methods to strengthen their roles as fully integrated providers in Canadian's primary care," explains Nadine Saby, President and CEO of CACDS. "We entered this partnership, which has the overwhelming support of our Board of Governors, only after observing the benefits afforded to U.S. pharmacies through LearnSomething's partnership with NACDS."

It's particularly meaningful, explains Saby, that the online course Quality and Patient Safety will be among the first LearnSomething offerings available to CACDS members. The course provides an efficient and reliable approach to establishing a comprehensive medication error-prevention program.

"Pharmacists are the professionals most trusted by Canadians, so we have a tremendous responsibility and opportunity. The end goal for all of us," says Saby, "is to continually improve care for pharmacy patients. We believe our partnership with LearnSomething will help us achieve this most valued objective."

CACDS members will gain access to the complete LearnSomething course catalog, which includes online courses on immunization and bloodborne pathogens, as well as courses LearnSomething will develop in partnership with the Company Chemists' Association (CCA).

Many of the pharmacy courses support government efforts to keep costs down through efficiencies.

Members will be able to fully customize courses with their company logos and policies & procedures. They also will have the option to upgrade their own technical infrastructure through company-branded portals and learning management platforms that provide the most flexible tracking and reporting functions currently available.

<person>Steve Roden</person>, CEO of LearnSomething, sees this partnership with CACDS as an opportunity his company is well prepared for. "We're a solution-based company. That's why we continue to thrive, even in these difficult times. We believe CACDS members will find our operational and compliance courses relevant and timely for pharmacists and staff. We also think the shopper marketing products we've developed to connect with shoppers create a win-win result for retail drug stores and consumers."

LearnSomething's in-store interactive signage provides shoppers with vital information and product solutions in retail aisles. "Our signage device provides shoppers with personalized wellness and beauty solutions at the point of purchase, making it a perfect fit for the changing face of pharmacies."

Roden explains: "At the push of a button, shoppers can find ethically based product solutions for many of their most common health and beauty needs. Every one of our video programs is engaging and brief, yet delivers the information and solutions consumers and patients need to make safe and results-oriented decisions. Consumers get answers and increase their positive perceptions of retailers."

Roden believes that many of the topics addressed through interactive signage -- including diabetes, osteoporosis, heart health and blood pressure -- align with CACDS members' efforts to shift patients from passive roles to "active consumers" who support pharmacies' shift toward becoming wellness and in-store disease management centres.

"The ability of LearnSomething to offer our members different types of value-added products and services," says Saby, "was instrumental in making them the right choice for CACDS and its members."
