Incoming Chair, National Group Head and Calgary Managing Partner Appointed

TORONTO, June 16, 2016 /CNW/ - Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to announce the following leadership changes, each involving senior partners based in the firm's Calgary office, effective July 1, 2016.

National Council has appointed Melinda Park as incoming chair of National Council. With a practice focused in securities, capital markets and corporate law, Melinda has served in both national and regional leadership roles, including as chair of BLG's Audit Committee. Melinda, who will be BLG's first woman chair, succeeds Bob Shouldice at the end of his term. Bob will continue his practice as one of Canada's leading corporate commercial lawyers in the areas of infrastructure, M&A and corporate governance.

National Council has also appointed David Whelan, QC, as the national group head, Specialized Business Law, to succeed Marc Jolicoeur. In this role, David will continue to serve as a member of the firm's National Management Committee, as one of four firm-wide group heads. David, a partner in our Financial Services Group, has been the regional managing partner of the Calgary office since 2007, and has also served as a member and chair of National Council.

The partners in BLG's Calgary office have elected Alan Ross as the Calgary regional managing partner, to succeed David Whelan. Alan is a partner in the Commercial Litigation Group. Alan also served as the Province of Alberta's representative to Ottawa and the Toronto-Montréal corridor, representing the Government of Alberta at the federal level, from 2013 to 2014.

"On behalf of all members of the firm, I wish to congratulate Melinda, David and Alan on their new roles and thank Bob and Marc for their significant contributions to the leadership and governance of the firm during a very dynamic period in its development," said Sean Weir, BLG's national managing partner and CEO.
