CALGARY, Dec. 10 /CNW/ - The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) is pleased to announce that the provincial government has reappointed William S. Rice, Q.C. as Chair and CEO of the Alberta Securities Commission. His second term will expire July 16, 2015.
"I am honoured to be reappointed as the leader of the ASC," says Bill Rice. "Over the past four and a half years, we have worked hard to effectively oversee Canada's second largest capital market and protect investors. Building and maintaining confidence in our market has been our key priority, especially during these challenging economic times, and I'm proud of what ASC's employees have accomplished. I am confident that we are well positioned for the challenges that lie ahead for securities regulators internationally, in Canada and in Alberta."
Rice was first appointed Chair and CEO of the ASC in July 2005. Prior to joining the ASC, he was the national managing partner of Bennett Jones LLP, having enjoyed a lengthy practice as a securities lawyer. Rice has also had extensive board and chair responsibilities with both public and private companies.
The ASC is the regulatory agency responsible for administering the province's securities laws. It is entrusted to foster a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and to protect investors. As a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators, the ASC works to improve, coordinate and harmonize the regulation of Canada's capital markets.
